Mrs. Hilary Lock is responsible for the smooth running and organisation of the practice. She will be happy to hear your comments - both good and bad.
Our fully trained receptionists, secretaries and administration staff are here to help you. They will often need to ask you further details when you telephone. This is to ensure that we assist you as effectively as possible. They are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as the doctors and nurses.
Sister Jane Smithson BSc (Hons)
RGN CMB (Part 1)
Sister Smithson is an experienced practice nurse who has
undertaken 3 years extra training to become a nurse
practitioner. This training has extended her expertise
to be able to examine, diagnose and treat many ailments and to be
able to recognise when she needs to refer on to a doctor or other
health professional. Very often, patients are aware themselves of
the sort of problems that can be dealt with by a specially
trained nurse and these may include childrens' illnesses, ladies'
problems, chest and ear infections as well as Jane's specialist
areas of interest: diabetes and asthma care. The surgery offers
the choice of seeing her or the doctor and we hope that this will
help ease the increasing workload in primary health care.
Our nursing sisters work in the treatment room. Typical matters they deal with are immunisations, holiday vaccinations, blood tests, dressings, cervical smears and health promotion clinics. They are also available for consultation and advice in health related matters.

The receptionist or the practice nurse can give the results of tests to you: please ring after 1pm when the phone lines are less busy.
The Surgery is closed between 6.00pm and 8.30am each weekday and at weekends. If you require urgent advice during the working day please ring the surgery on 01289 356920. Outwith surgery working hours please click here to find out what to do in an emergency. When on call, our doctors are on duty from 8am one day until 6pm the next day, i.e. 34 hours without a break, so please use the emergency service appropriately. If the doctor feels that a visit is not necessary, he or she may offer you telephone advice. In some medical emergencies, the doctor may arrange to meet you in the casualty department at Berwick Infirmary, as better medical care can be given with the improved facilities there.
All repeat prescriptions are computerised and you will be given a request slip listing medications you can order without seeing a doctor. Requests can be made by ticking the items that you require and handing the slip into the prescription desk, or sending it in by post with a stamped addressed envelope. You can also request your repeat prescription from this site. We do not take prescription requests by telephone.
The surgery operates a prescription collection service with all the local chemists. If you tick to identify your preferred chemist at the bottom of the repeat prescription slip the prescription will be sent directly to that chemist. You can then pick up your tablets directly from the pharmacy without having to collect the prescription at the surgery. This service is also available online.
Please allow 48 hours notice for all repeat prescriptions. If you have sight problems and would like an A4 size list of your repeat prescriptions, please ask the receptionist.
